Self-care is not a luxury but a necessity

I recently went on a special trip—the first time I traveled since my son was born 20 months ago. Leaving both my kids behind (with their father, of course) wasn't easy, but it was something I felt I needed to do. Not because I wanted to escape my daily motherly responsibilities, but because I felt it was time to recharge alone (with a close friend). And boy, was I ready! I missed my family, but I truly appreciated that me-time to reframe, reset, and think about the best way to continue balancing my work and personal life.

I often hear executives complain about the lack of time they have for themselves and their families. Finding time for oneself is crucial for maintaining a healthy work-life balance, whatever that might look like for each individual. Taking a step back to recharge can make a world of difference. It also sets a leadership example for those who are watching. If we are not able to prioritize ourselves and what truly matters, how can we do that in other areas?

It's important to recognize that self-care is not a luxury but a necessity. Investing time in yourself not only enhances your well-being but also improves your capacity to lead and support others. This is something I emphasize in executive coaching—understanding the importance of balance and making it a priority. So, let’s strive to find that balance, take those necessary breaks, and return with renewed energy and perspective.
